- Esophagus
- Is a muscular tube that is 2.5cm in diameter and about 25 cm long extending from pharynx to stomach
- Posterior to trachea and anterior to vertebral column
- Pierces to the diaphragm through the
hiatus
- Contains 2 sphincter:
1. Upper esophageal sphincter - tracheoesophageal sphincter
2. Lower esophageal sphincter - gastroesophageal / cardiac sphincter
